HISTORY OF BUCKEYE PACIFIC, LLC

The seeds of Forest City Trading Group, Buckeye’s parent company, were planted in Cleveland, Ohio by Polish immigrants who entered the lumber industry in 1921 with forward-thinking ideas.

What started as a single lumber yard eventually became a network of companies in several innovative areas of the wood products business.

By 1950 Forest City was the largest forest products yard in the upper midwest, and over 85% of their lumber came from the west. Given the need for management in this region, our company, originally called Buckeye Wholesale Lumber, was founded in the the fall of 1950 as a buying office for Forest City to foster relationships with sawmills and procure railcars.

Changes and additions to Forest City’s business structure throughout the 1950s and 1960s eventually paved the way for Buckeye to emerge as its own wholesale company.

We’ve since grown to a full-service, employee-owned lumber distribution business. We’ve built our business by providing quality lumber solutions to our customers and suppliers.

Our parent company, Forest City Trading Group, also based in the Portland metro area, is home to a total of 13 trading companies. FCTG is the largest wholesale lumber distributor in North America. In fact, one out of every 10 houses built in the US contains a material or products bought or sold by FCTG! How’s that for a powerhouse?
